How to Help

Leukemia is an incredibly costly disease. Most often those diagnosed are unable to continue working through treatment, and if a bone marrow transplant is part of the plan that time is extensive, well over a year.

One chemotherapy treatment can cost upwards of $100,000.00, a bone marrow transplant - $500,000.00. In the first year a Leukemia patient can easily run medical bills totaling over 1-1/2 Million dollars.  Co-payments and insurance premiums rise and medical needs continue...the task of keeping up becomes daunting. Add to this the struggle to stay ahead of daily living expenses, all without being able to continue working... Now the patient has to worry about surviving the financial pitfalls of Leukemia, instead of focusing on beating and surviving the disease itself.

It is nearly impossible for a regular family to financially bear the burden of this disease.

Mountains for Blake will first help Blake through his treatment, during this time small grants will be made available for adults in need. After Blake is in recovery, we will work with Leukemia patients offering support and guidance with finding financial help, and by continuing our fund raising, make Mountains for Blake a support system for Leukemia patients.
